SUMAKAH FESTIVAL! ☺

Antipolo is a timeless destination.Through the centuries, the city has captivated devotees to its Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage. It is also a place of incomparable beauty, culture and history. Its high elevation gives one a panoramic vista of Metro Manila’s skyline, its majestic sunset and the slowly returning green foliage of its mountains.

Sumakah is an acronym for Suman, Mangga, Kasuy and Hamaka (the old means of transportation of going up to the highlands), the icons that make Antipolo a must-see destination during May time aside from the pilgrimage. It is celebrated during May 1.

It is also celebrated with different programs and activities such as Street Dancing Competitions, cultural presentations, arts and culinary exhibits as well as agro-industrial and tourism fair.

TAYO NA SA ANTIPOLO
AT DOON MALIGO TAYO
SA BATIS NA KUNG TAWAGIN
AY HI.. HI.. HINULUGANG TAKTAK
AT DOON TAYO KUMAIN
NG MANGGA, SUMAN, KASOY AT BALIMBING
KAYA'T MAGMADALI KA
AT TAYO'Y TUTULOY NA SA ANTIPOLO. ♫♪♫

"Tayo Na Sa Antipolo" composed by German San Jose (Gerry Brandy) of Malate, Manila is the most common tune used in celebrating Sumakah Festival.

Former Mayor Angelito C. Gatlabayan had unveiled the SUMAKAH Festival in year 2002. Gatlabayan's SUMAKAH Festival seeks to familiarize tourist with all the fine facets of the city like the Hinulugang Taktak which is famous waterfall, the Prime tourist spot of Old Antipolo.

As a third year Tourism Student living in Antipolo, I'm very grateful to have this kind of Festival which aims to promote the different delicacies and different tourist spots in Antipolo. Because in my own point of view, it's one of a good way on how we can improve in our industry while loving our own product and services offered. Aside from that, by means of having this kind of festival, we can also attract different visitors and tourists for us to be able to be remembered and reminisced for being on of the most interesting and beautiful city when it comes in different matters.

In addition, the Philippines is not just a great place to travel but also for a different food exploration. And again, as someone who grew
up in Antipolo,I'm really proud to know that the finest delicacies like kasuy, mangga and cahews can be found here along wirh many other things this city has to offer
